About the work
Mijn werk bestaat uit fotografische en mixed media beelden. Daarbij zoek ik de gelaagdheid in het beeld op. Vanuit sec fotografische beelden heeft mijn werk zich ontwikkeld naar beelden waarin ik letterlijk een extra laag toevoeg.
Dit is ontstaan vanuit een fascinatie voor datgene wat je vaak niet ziet in het dagelijkse leven. Het verhaal achter de mens of een gebeurtenis. Dat probeer ik zichtbaar te maken; de onderstroom. Daarbij werk ik voornamelijk vanuit persoonlijke ervaringen; momenteel mijn ervaringen met de ziekte post covid. Pas als ik een relatie heb met het onderwerp, komt het tot leven in mijn verbeelding.
Een grote inspiratie voor mij is de kunstenaar Frida Kahlo. Zij maakt in haar schilderijen emoties en ervaringen zichtbaar en schuwt daarbij het ongemak niet. Deze pure benadering, bewonder ik.
In mijn huidige werk voeg ik aan fotografische beelden een extra laag toe, waarbij ik graag werk met textiel. De zachtheid van dit soepele materiaal is belangrijk omdat het mij in staat stelt om rauwe ervaring of emotie te verzachten.
Biografie
Bij Fotoschool Statief heb ik twee jaar gestudeerd en daar heb ik de techniek van het fotograferen leren kennen. Van 2019 tot 2023 vormde ik met enkele ander fotografen het Fotocollectief Utrecht. Binnen dat fotocollectief stond ontwikkeling centraal; jaarlijks werden docenten uitgenodigd en volgden de fotografen een individueel coachingstraject. In 2023 heb ik een traject gevolgd bij Storing Aub. In dit traject wordt aan kunstenaars een nieuwe impuls geboden. Het is een plek voor onderzoek en experiment, inhoudelijke verdieping en inspirerende uitwisseling met andere makers.

About the work
My work consists of photography and mixed media images in which I search for different layers within an image. The starting point of my work is photography but from there on it developed into images in which I add physical layers. This comes from my personal fascination for those things in life that are often hidden under the surface. The story behind a person or an event. That is what I try to capture.
I mainly work from personal experiences; currently my experiences with long-covid disease. Only when I feel connected to the subject, the image can come to life within my imagination.
I am inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo. In her paintings, she visualizes emotions and experiences and she doesn't walk away from the feeling of discomfort. I admire this approach very much.
Within my current work I add layers to photographic images. I particularly like to work with textiles because of the softness of the material since it allows me to soften an emotion or raw experience within the image.
Biography
I studied for two years at Fotoschool Statief and there I learned the technical aspects of photography. From 2019 until 2023 I was part of Fotocollectief Utrecht. Within Fotocollectief Utrecht development was a key factor; every year different photographers were invited to teach and coach the group. In 2023 I was part of Storing Aub which offers a new impulse to artists. It is a place for research and experiments, depth and inspiring exchange with other artists.
